Lamictal and breastfeeding

Thu, 06/15/2017 - 12:01
Hi! I am new to this site so I hope that I am at the right place. I would like some feedback about taking Lamictal while breastfeeding. I am 32 weeks and am currently taking 175mg twice a day and have been doing great. There is not a lot of research on this. Our pediatrician and my OB/GYN do not advise me to breastfeed while taking Lamictal because there is not enough studies on it. My Lactation Consultant gave me some good resources and I have researched them. This is my 4th child and I breastfed my other children. I was not diagnosed with epilepsy until after my 3rd child. I have not had a seizure since taking Lamictal. Thanks.....

I took Lamictal, while breastfeeding.  (sorry it's been 10 years so I don't remember my dose, but it was pretty high back then).  I breastfed for 10 months.  My son is very healthy.  In fact I would say he is more healthy then many of his friends.  We have only had to go to the dr. for regular check-ups and a lego stuck in his ear. Other than that we have never had a fever that was not reduced by Tylenol, no allergies, no broken bones, no learning disorders, etc.
