Keppra and post partum depression

Tue, 05/24/2016 - 02:31
Hi everyone, so I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced worsening depression on Keppra. My husband has been doing a lot of digging online and found a bunch or info about keppra and depression. I've felt so crummy the past 2 years or so taking Keppra. A lot has happened in my life since then so I chalked it up to situational depression. Now reading through threads on here, I'm convinced it's the keppra. My neurologist is one of the main researchers in anti seizure meds in women, particularly fond of Keppra. I switched from depakote a few years ago because we wanted to get pregnant. I also take an antidepressant which was increased when the post partum stuff kicked in. I'm so foggy, irritable, confused, exhausted, and now suicidal. Went to the ER last week for a psychiatric emergency because I couldn't get the "kill your self" tape to stop playing in my mind. I was sent home after a good pep talk that i needed to take care of myself and do something fun. Just feel so defeated. Messing up a lot at work and feeling so miserable that im going to lose my job. My husband has been so supportive but I just don't want him or my 11 month old daughter to have to deal with this. Any advice for language to use to get my neuro to listen to my pleas that Keppra is bad for me?

OK I know where your coming

OK I know where your coming from the group of neurologists I have been with since O landed in Dallas is the only group that does research and drug testing so I am very familiar with the neurologists and what many think. However I also know that most of those neurologists not only research and know about the medications. their job is to resolve the issues their patients have. If you have a good relationship with your neurologist then call the office and talk to them. Give them all this information and show them the paperwork from the hospital. Changes can be made. As for all the posts your hubby has seen and it you researched you have seen. Understand that yes side effects do happen. If you looked at the list 5-8% of the people the meds are prescribed to will get a side effect. All of those nasty posts are written by them. You may be one of those 5-8%. I myself haven't had any problems with keppra I have worked in the research area in drug tests for new medications SO I do know how the lists get put together and some about the percentages. What you have posted could be taken care of in a call. The doctors assistant will listen and refer you question to them or set up an appointment. I made calls and got results and yes appointments within days

Oh and I might add that you might want to take your husband with you so the doctor can get his view of things to.  That has helped me and at times Doc has called my other half and checked to see if the changes had helped. Doc knew I would want  them knowing.
