How to deal with being childless

Tue, 02/24/2015 - 10:55

Has anyone decided not to have children (whether biological or adoptive) due to health/seizure issues?  How did you deal with the decision when you really wanted to have children, but realized it probably was not wise to do so?

While I am not a woman I do

While I am not a woman I do know that I am just like everybody else. You did not post the  type of seizures you have. Nor did you post the frequency or how often tou have your seizures. Are you going to let epilepsy and seizures control your life or will you be just like everybody else and life life to it's fullest?  In here there are women that have families and yes kids but they too have eplepsy and seizures. How did you deal with the decision when you really wanted to have children, but realized it probably was not wise to do so?    I was the one that had epilepsy. At 15 mom had my brother. At 16 my step father had an accident and was in traction in the hospital for 6-8 months. Mom had to go to work which left me to take care of Tim. Hey I took care of him. Changed his diapers. Oh and that was long before they came to the stores. Real diapers the ones that got washed and hung out on the line. I fed Tim and laid him on the couch. He was in an area that he could not fall out of since I pushes the coffee table up next to the couch. I did my homework across from him while setting on the floor. In other words it is up to you wheither you have kids or not. Don't let epilepsy control your life. You control your epilepsy. I still have seizures but I have had them for 50+ years. I learned to use common sense and not let epilepsy and seizures control my life.

I've have the same feelings

I've have the same feelings as memlee because of the meds that I'm on.  I've wanted to have the experience of having a child but put it off.I just got married a couple months ago and 40 years old and my husbands okay with it right now, he's also 50 and I think having a kid that late in life is not something to , now that I'm 40 it's not going to happen and it's not just because of meds but age too.I am going to try to adopt but think that I might get turned down because of my disability and age.
