Feeling stressed and confused

Thu, 09/03/2015 - 02:41

Hi,  I'm Tracy and I am a 42 year old female. I have not officially been diagnosed with epilepsy but want to see if anyone else is or has dealt with what is happening to me. In March 2015 I had gone to the Dr.  3-4 times complaining that I thought I had an ear infection in my left ear but never did have one. The final trip in the Dr at urgent care diagnosed me with Trigeminal neuralgia. Inflammation of the Trigeminal nerve in my face.  I was told to follow up with my PCP which I did and she agreed with the diagnosis and put me on 900mg of Neurontin per day. I started to go off of it a couple times through April and May but would end up back on it due to continuing symptoms.  Left ear pain, pain around my left eye, pain along my jaw line.  In May I had plans for my Mom and I to take my daughter to lunch for her birthday.  I drove to the restaurant, my Mom followed me in her vehicle. We had lunch, visited,  played with my grandson, I paid the bill and drove home. When I got home I felt very confused and EXHAUSTED! I tucked myself into bed and slept for several hours. Which is completely out of character for me. When I woke up I did not remember the lunch or anything prior to feeling tired and confused and going to bed.  After speaking to my Mom and Daughter I found out that we had gone to lunch and all the details but still could not recall any of it. They both said that I appeared to be "there but with the lights out". Like I was going through the motions but wasn't there mentally.  I have had a lot of these episodes since. Some witnessed by family members, some while I was alone but there was some end result for me to realize I had done something but don't remember doing it. I also have continued to periodically experience SEVERE pain in the left side of my head and around my left eye as well as very persistent twitching in my left eye. I am seeing a neurologist and my PCP.  The neurologist does not agree that I had Trigeminal neuralgia in March and feels that whatever happened then was the start of this whole mess.  Both doctors wanted me to stay on the Neurontin because it is used to treat seizures and they feared taking me off of it may make them worse.  A 1/2 hour EEG, a 3 hour EEG,  and an MRI-all normal. The neurologist is going to treat me for seizures,  but we don't know why I suddenly started having them.  I can't drive,  can't work,  can't go anywhere without someone who knows me well enough to recognize the episode.   Because I appear to be functioning normal through the episode but people who  know me well  can  recognize  that I'm not "normal ". But I lose that period of time completely,  can't recall the events at all even after being told. Feeling like my life is upside down and have no answers. Has anyone dealt with these issues, does anyone have suggestions or thoughts on this? I just don't know what to do now or where to turn next.
