Epileptic and I'm pregnant with my first.

Sun, 04/17/2016 - 16:55
Good Afternoon. I recently found out I was pregnant and I'm only 9 weeks. Sadly we figure out I was pregnant after a fluke seizure happened out of nowhere. Luckily I was with people that did the right thing and got me help. I was rushed to the hospital and had multiple tests done. 4 weeks later, still no period, I figured it was time to take a peek test and I was pregnant. The seizure wasn't my first. As a baby I was a high risk to have seizures. I was born with cranial stenosis which is where a baby's soft spots never closed after development. The doctors put me on Dilantin for precautionary reasons only to find out I was allergic to it. So from infancy to about 11 years old I lived a normal.life with no seizures and no meds to control them. Then after my 11th birthday I started having focal seizures due to the cranium having a price that was digging into my brain and causing brain damage. From 1996 to 2002, I dealt with seizuresome and an array of seizure meds. After being free of seizures in 2003, I was able to drive and I was no longer on meds. That was until Feb 29th of this year when I blacked out and had a gran mal seizure. I no longer can drive until I'm seizure free for a year in the state I live in. I'm currently on Trileptal and was taking Keppra until my neurologist took me off of it. I'm 30yrs old and this is the first time I have ever gotten pregnant. I'm beside myself because I never thought.I'd ever get pregnant. I have no problems getting pregnant, it just never happened between me and my ex husband. So I hope to get some excellent help here and I'm soo happy to have found this forum since I've been super worried about being pregnant and having seizures. On top of all this I also deal with Anxiety and I'm on antidepressents for it. So as you can see I'm trying my best to keep myself informed and keep my wondering mind at bay.

Glad to see this and sorry you started having seizures again. What ever you do one of the things you need to do is talk to your neurologist about you being pregnant. Medication need to be looked at and that includes any and all medications you take. Over th counter meds included. Some medications can counter others and some shouldn't be used while child baring
