Breastfeeding on lamotrigine?

Sat, 11/19/2016 - 13:35
I am not currently pregnant but I will hopefully be starting a family within the next couple years and would like to be as informed as possible. I am wondering if any moms on here breastfed their babies? I was talking to my neurologist and she said it was ok for me to breastfeed as the amount of meds in the milk is pretty low but I would just have to watch for the baby being lethargic. I am on 225MG of lamotrigine in the morning and 300MG at bedtime plus folic acid twice a day. I would love to hear from moms who have had a successful breastfeeding journey! For a little more info I was diagnosed with epilepsy at 15 and first started on Dilantin(sp) and was switched over to lamictal at 17 then to the generic, lamotrigine at 20 and have been on that for 6 years and I have been taking folic acid for the last 4 or so years. Last October I went to a genetic specialist at the request of my neurologist and found out I had periventricular heterotopia which is was caused my seizures.
