24 weeks Pregnant, ordered to start taking Lamictal

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 16:50

Hi! I'm a 20 yo female, 24 weeks pregnant. I've been suffering from Grand Mal seizures for about two years now. I've had a total of 7 since March 2013. My last one was in August of 2014. I concieved in Septermber of 2014.

They finally had an EEG done at the begining of Feburary and noticed disturbing discharges and ordered me to start taking Lamictal, 50mgs twice a day. From what I understand, this is a fairly low dosage, and I know being close to my third trimester that it's much safer to take, but I'm still concerned about the affects it could have on my baby, or the chances of it causing a seizure.

I also take 3 mgs of Folic Acid a day a long with my Prenatal Vitamin.

I was looking for advice, reassuring input, or your own personal experiences. Thank you!

Hello. I have 2 healthy boys

Hello. I have 2 healthy boys (5 and 7). I have had epilepsy for 20 years now (I'm 33) and 2 perfectly healthy pregnancies. As a matter of fact had no seizures during my pregnancies... But they started back up after (slowly). I was on 400mg of Lamical during my second pregnancy the whole time and I even breastfed for 18mo after.. Still on 400mg of Lamical. My son shows absolutely no negative signs or developmental delays. So I would not worry, 150 is low and Lamical is the best for pregnancy. Good luck
