Will I Outgrow Epilepsy?

A couple months ago i was diagnosed with JME is there a chance that i could outgrow it when i get over or will it always be a part of me?

Thank you Suzy, I didn't know whether you could outgrow it or not. I was just diagnosed in September last year.

Mom of 16 yr old boy diagnosed with JME in Nov 2005. FlaGirl: My son was diagnosed with JME last November. From what our neuro told us and what I have read, JME does require lifelong medication (I have read that sometimes around age 60 the need lessens for some odd reason). People don't outgrow JME. He is on Depakote ER which he takes once per day at bedtime. So far he has had good control and is doing everything he did before the JME. I realize that the thought of taking medication for life sounds very scary and inconvenient, but remember that many people have to take meds for something: diabetes, asthma, etc. and that in the big picture there can always be something worse than JME. My son said that "you have to play the cards you are dealt" and that "everyone has something to deal with, if not now then later." It will take you a while to adjust and come to terms with this and you and your family will get used to a "new normal." I know because we are doing it. Good luck and keep positive. Suzy
