Speaking just before a seizure?

Mon, 07/05/2010 - 19:59

Alrighty, I have a question for anyone that cares to read this. XD

Has anyone tried to talk right before a seizure? Like call out or anything?

Because before my first seizure, I remember waving my hand in front of my face and not seeing them (which totally tripped me out; I eventually figured out my eyes must have kept the last image they saw imprinted on my retinas. Which is kinda cool in a strange way.) and I called out to my friend, or I THOUGHT I did. Haven't had a chance to ask her if she heard or not, though.

My second one was when I was in the basement of my house, and I THOUGHT I screeched for my dad, but apparently some sort of strange mumble came out, but thank God he heard anyway. I could have sworn I yelled.

So, that means my linguistic/vocal centre shut down, right? Has anyone else tried to alert people they were going to have a seizure? Because I need to know if I can manage to get someone's attention before I seize.

By the way, I have grand mal/tonic clonic seizures and my aura lasts about 10 seconds. Starts with heaviness in the limbs, then the sight goes, then I am down and out. Recovery takes about two hours.

 Thanks in advance!

-Azari

Hi Azari,

When I'm about to have a seizure, my mouth fills up with a flood or saliva and I don't really have control of my muscles.  So, I just take advange of my auras and hit the floor, before the floor hits me!    Phylis Feiner Johnson www.epilepsytalk.com

My last tonic clonic (exactly a week ago) my mom was with me.  Though I have no memory of doing this, she said I just stared straight ahead and was repeating the word "NO" just before the convulsions started.  Evidently I knew I was going to have one, unfortunately all my memory has been erased.  So, I may have auras, but if I have no memory after my seizure of this "aura", then they are absolutely useless.  Its good you have remembered, that way you can have some idea that you are going into a tonic clonic and if there's time you can get somewhere relatively safe.

take care.
