Sat, 07/29/2006 - 21:19
im 19 and got my first seizure when i was about 15...i just found out i may have to take my meds for the rest of my life after having another one about 4 weeks ago while being weaned off of the meds. I would love to hear any comments or advice from anybody who has seizures, especially those caused by sleep deprivation.

My five year old has been diagnosed with Benign Occipital Childhood Epilepsy. Her seizures have occurred in her sleep. Our neurologist told us that sleep deprivation lowers her thresholds and is a factor in triggering the seizures. I don't think the sleep deprivation actually causes the seizures but rather is a factor that lowers her resistence to them. Is that your situation as well? Are your seizures during sleep or daytime?

Juanne Tiffany my seizures have all but one occured during the day. My first seizure happened in the night but occured after a a lack of sleep the previos night and a very stressful day . It didnt hapen while i was sleeping.i however don't have epilepsy. The seizures are Grand Mal/Tonic Clonic. All my tests have come back normal except for slightly above normal electrical activity. So i don't know if its a similar situation to yours.

My daughter started out with a sleep disorder and then developed seizures. Now it may be that she was having seizures and we were not aware. She has partial seizures in which she does not lose consciousness and it only lasts for a few minutes. They are better now that her sleep disorder has improved.
