Need Help and advices

Hello, I'm André Cunha and this is my first post here. I've been recently (a little more than 2 years ago) diagnosed with epilepsy. I had a isolated seizure (tonic clonic, and have only about this type) under very specific conditions of lack of sleep and body stress and then, after almost a year and after a a slightly abnormal with little edges across all of it, I remained with no seizures at all. Since I entered to college into physics 2 years ago the seizures returned in a constant way (I had 7~8 seizures since then). I have them always after waking up and under little sleep. I've been medicated but I chose to abandon because at the time I considered that were few seizures and the medication (Depakine Chrono) would severe my intelectual and mental capabilities which are fundamental in physics (my degree). I'd like to know what to do. I've extremely difficulty in adopting a constant sleep rate and medication leaves me in a way which I become slugish and absent. I will consult my doctor once again because the situation is completely out of control but I would like some help. Sorry for any kind of rough english but it's not my native language. Cheers

Hello Andre' and welcome! How long were you on medication and was it during the time your seizures were controlled? All seizure medications have side effects that are a pain...some more than others, especially at first. With your being in school, concentration is a norm and must for you and concentration is a trigger for me. It may be for you. Work with your doctor on the meds, he/she may be able to help you find one that isn't such a hinderence. But whichever one you are put on, remember to give your system time to adjust to it. Good Luck! -Spiz
