Just found out

Sat, 10/07/2006 - 11:28
A week ago this past Monday I had my first seizure. I was at work and had never experienced one before. I went to the hospital and had all the tests done. Went to the neuro doctor and had an EEG, all the while never thinking it could be anything more than me not taking caring care of myself. I got the phone call yesterday afternoon on my break from work. My doctor called and said I had Epilepsy. I started crying and went home right after that. I have been researching information and learning as much as i can. I think im still in shock. If anyone has any advise i would really appreciate it! 3 lana

I know about shock. Mine was in the middle of a road and its still not stable. Do you know what caused yours?? Emotional or work stress, not enough sleep?? I suggest you talk to someone, it doesn't matter who as long as you get it off your chest so to speak. Get some advise from your doctor and try and get it stable with medicine. Once you have, you should be able to live without it bothering you but just take it easy at the moment. I hope thats ok. If not I can tell you about some sites and books you can look at Maxi

I've been dealing with some speculation of Epilepsy for quite some time, but it only became official about a week ago. It turns out that I've most likely had it since I was 5 years old. It's definitely been scary for me to actually have a label for this problem, and I've been freaking out a little bit, even though I did realize that it was Epilepsy before I was offically diagnosed. The easiest thing for me to do is to talk to people. I'm in college and I've spoken to my hall director, my RA, the counseling center, the health services, the student disability services, and my friend who I went to high school with. It's also good to be able to talk openly with your family about the situation you're in. If you're uncomfortable with the news, let them know so you can prevent further problems (like depression.) This is another situation I've been in (in the past) and it's not a pretty one, so do whatever you can to avoid it. Let me know how things go...it's really not so bad once you get the right treatment and things start to work out for you.
