I want to chop of my hand!!!!!!!!!!

Thu, 08/09/2007 - 02:46
I hate my left hand!!!! I want to kill it!!! Ever since I was 15 or 16 my left hand has had this stupid, annoying tremor. It just trembles for no apparent reason and I hate it! I found out later that the tremor is caused from a side effect of the epilepsy medicine felbatol, which I have been on since forever. And this tremor of mine makes me want to go insane. I can't paint my nails without messing them up, I can't hold things in my left hand without my hand shaking like a posessed maniac, and I can't live my life like this anymore!!! Can anyone help me???????????????? Thanks

You can get all sizes of clips and clamps from a hardware store to hold things (they clamp onto a table edge on the bottom and hold things on top). Also, some beauty supply shops have "forms" to put around the nail bed to prevent getting polish on them, although I think I might try different thicknesses of ointment around the nail first. Hmm, sounds like something I need to try, too, because my hands shake. One thing I learned in art and also photography is to steady one's hand, prop it against something (like next to the wrist) and use the fingers to move the brush around, rather than using the whole hand. Thanks for getting me thinking!

Honey this may sound harsh, but things could always be worse. I am a mom not a teen, but I have very severe Rheumatoid Arthritis (since I was 15 not that I am saying I am worse off than you). What is so ironic is I used to model tall thin blonde and yes I can say it now pretty. They also liked modeling my hands, well now I have joint replacements with HUGE scars on my once beautiful hands, and body. However; I could let it upset me and not go out in public (because people stare) but I use my crippled hands and body to do God's work and to help others. My husband once siad I think your hands are beautiful.. I looked at him puzzled, and he replied those are the hands that lovingly rocked my precious boy to sleep, or kindly made me dinner after a hard days work. I started to cry to know that he still can see my inner beauty, not my crippled body. If you ever need to talk dksimo@comcast.net. PS my son is now 15 years old and having seizures also. Good luck to you God bless Kim :~)

Hi riga. While I'm no teen anymore, 42 lol, I like to read here sometimes because I was a teen when it all started. I sure understand the tremor, possessed is a great word for it, trying to hold it down was a joke! I was totaly embarrassed by it at times and sure got tired of saying "I think it's my meds". People would say wow are you ever shakey, too much caffeine today? That hurt big time and it was yet another symtom I wished they could virtualy feel.Painting the nails? I used to get my daughter to do them, she was young but did a better job than I could. I also had to sign a paper stating that my husband could fill out important forms for me. Well it was the meds I was taking at the time. The first visit with my epileptologist he said "we need to get you off the depakote". Make sure your doctor knows about it and ask about a med change. It is enough to deal with seizures, we should not have to deal with severe side effects. Smiles and good luck.
