I think I'm having symptoms

Tue, 08/09/2005 - 00:41

I am afraid I am having early symptoms of epilepsy. I have been having wierd tingling and strange feelings while on my menstrual cycle. I really don't know if this is normal for a period, but it has been happening for a while. And when the symptoms happen I can't think and usually have deja vu or a flashback. I been feeling like I have been out of body at times while on my period. Lately, I have been having problem with anixety, I am occasionally stress, but I have never been like this. It's like a build up in my head, and I just feel like crying, but I have no reason too. I also kind of have trouble remembering things, like I'll type something and look at it, and say " I didn't type that I typed this." I have never told anyone this but I witnessed myself having what I think was a seizure 2 times; I woke up and I was shaking in a fetal position, but I stop soon as I woke (Although I doubt it was one). I'm really scared about what will happen if I really do have this disease. Please help, what should I do? P.S. my mother has epilepsy.

Hi Zenia -

I'm glad you came here looking for help.  And I am sorry you are going through such a tough time.

The first thing you need to do is talk to your mom and tell her what is happening.  If you are having seizures, she needs to know, and you need to get in to see a neurologist, or even start with your family doctor and ask for a referral.    Menstrual cycles can have a tremendous impact on our bodies in many ways!  If in fact, you do have epilepsy, your monthly cycle may impact when you have the seizures.

Please, PLEASE talk to your mom and get in to see a doctor!  We are here for you to talk to and ask questions!

Hugs to you,
Barb

I hope you will talk to your mom and your doc very soon! This could be serious and it does need to be looked into! Hang in there with it. I am sure it is scary to think through "what ifs"...........

Heya! I'm sixteen and i've had epilepsy since i was 2. It's hard growing up with it, you can't really do all the things that other people do at your age, but if you livee life normally it's like you don't have it. I was first diagonsed with Epilepsy when i was three on Christmas Eve(Merry Christmas, eh?) I agree that you do need to tell your parents and maybe(It helped me) Talk to a consoler. What i have noticed is the more stress that's being placed on me the more frequent the seizures are. All I can say is stay health and don't let the fear of having it push you into depression and do anything stupid. If in fact you do have Epilepsy, and you worry about it affecting your sociel life, tell those who you think are closest to you about it first. Having someone to talk to about it has helped me alot. Also, dating is a problem for alot of people. It was for me throw more than three of my relationships. One of them turned to abuse. He thought that since I was already 'diseased' in his eyes, that he could just beat me like the sh!t i was, though he never took the time to get to know me. Don't worry, babe, not all men are like that. My current boyfriend had an uncle whom had epilepsy. He has been very supportive. I hope and pray to my gods that you are stronge and if you ever need to talk to someone your age, i'm here to listen.Yahoo! messanger - forsakenteardrops_ofwarAOL Instant Messanger - kiddsangeliconeMSN - bruisedbutterflywings@hotmail.comE-mail - Kiddsangel@yahoo.com or fallenangelofwinter@juno.comLots of love and best of luck to you!NSS
