Heres the thing about Topamax & Depakote

i beeen on topamax and depakote, basically both sides of the fence. topamax makes you really skinny if you go on a high dsg 4 a long period of time and depakote makes you really fat if you go on it for a long period of time. trust me i know!
first i went on depakote, put on some weight.. so my Dr put me on topamax and ilost like 30 pounds, also i lost hecka sleep, and my mind lol.so i was put back on depakote..if ur a new comer to medications i dont advice TOpamax right off the bat, just because it is really strong...
But since i'm oolder now and i'm taking it for the second time around, becus depakote made me put on sum weight, so my dr gave me topamax to drop sum pounds... I'm doing really well on it now and it makes me focus (i no sounds weird huh? its like the opposite effect as i had last time, but maybe just cuz i'm older now and my body can handle the stronger effects now..?)

uhmmm yes i believe....
i had 3 kinda big seizures almost grandmal, but they are controllable on meds. but when i was taken off of meds a couple of months ago, i didn't have any big seizures, i was just experiencing absent seizures where iw as like unfocused... kinda weird so they put me on topamax and thank GOD i lost the weight from depakote.. WOOOHOOO lol... and now i'm way more focused, and i'm doing really good on topamax, better than when i'm not on any meds.

I was just diagnosed w/ epilepsy and I've been put on Topamax. I'm still only taking 25 mg, but eventually my doctor wants to put me on 200 mg a day. I haven't really felt any of the side effects yet so if anyone has any advice about it please let me know!

My son also took Depakote and gained weight, that goodness he was really skinny beforehand. Now he is on Lamictal and sleeps constantly, and is unfocused! Is Topamax for absence seizure as well? Good luck on the med's : ) Kim
