De ja vu anyone??

Thu, 07/26/2007 - 21:30
Hi I'm a 16 year old. I have been experiencing "Spells." They come about 17 times a day on average and last 10-12 min. I have had two EEG Monitoring for 6 days each. Each time I get hooked up the spells stop. How can I go from 17 spells to 0?? When I have a spell: I get an upset stomach headache in one spot of my head my rt foot goes numb I see one of three videos...call me crazy...rats, flying train, and slime. Each video is distinct and colored. When it is over I'm really tired Have short term memory loss At the mayo clinic in MN they said that I have epilepsy based on my symptoms. They gave me meds, but nothing helped. For a second opinion we went to Omaha. Since the spells stopped during an EEG the dr told me that the spells are psychogenic. All my symptoms fit to Epilepsy...i think. The only piece that doesn't fit is the starting and stopping. If anyone knows anything PLEASE let me know~ Thanks!

Sounds like a psychogenic thing to me. The mind is incredibly powerful and complex. It's possible it is just going through what a brain would do if it were really having a seizure but really is not having one. I've not heard of anyone with epilepsy being able to start and stop their seizures. It's interesting the Mayo clinic thought they were real. I'm curious as to why they thought that.

I cannot start and stop them, but it just happens. Mayo thought they were epileptice because of the symptoms. They said that they have never seen a psychogenic seizure where the rt foot goes numb, and distinct videos.

I do experience the de ja vu style seizures, though only the day after I have had a grand mal in my sleep - (which strangely is the only time I have a grand mal). The de ja vu seems to reflect or be almost exactly something that has happened earlier in the day. Not sure what triggers them for me but I think it is a single word group of words similar to the original event. I can't stop them I just have to sit them out but they only last a minute or so.
