alcohol and simple-partial seizures

Tue, 01/10/2006 - 20:01
i was diagnosed two years ago with simple-partial seizures and have been on 150mg lamictal twice a day since then. the thing is, i never had anything past a simple-partial and they happened pretty infrequently, maybe 5 per year. i see many people on this board inquiring about alcohol and seizure disorders, but its seems like many of these people have grandmal seizures, not my condition. i was just wondering whether the risk of having a seizure (if you've only had simple-partials) while drinking maybe 4 or 5 beers is increased as much as it is for people that have more severe seizures than i do.

I think any doctor would suggest you to be cautious with alcohol. Your seizures are not severe but that doesn't mean you should have a loose diet. Alcohol does comes with some risks, I don't think you are at risk of addiction, your condition wouldn't allow it but you should pay attention to any alcohol intake. In our experience, the likelihood of seizure would correlate with a number of factors personal to the individual, e.g. past intake levels of alcohol, liver issues, alcohol tolerance, seizure meds and other inetracting meds, etc, naturally it would be best to take advice from a doctor in this regard.best regardsAndyhttps://www.edinburghrehab.co.uk/

It is never healthy to drink hard liquor while you are on treatment. Its so dangerous. It's like killing yourself slowly but surely. Just like when you are sick with incontinence. Better stop drinking liquor while on medication before its too late.
