Vns lead revision

Sat, 06/27/2015 - 02:00

I just wanted to tell a bit about my vns implant.  I had a vns lead revision 10 days ago.  I had a bit of an unusual complication that developed months after the origional implant surgery.  I started feeling pain, pulling, and muscle spasms around where the chunk of lead was in my neck.  We turned off the device to test a theory, and it still happened.  So after some testing, it was decided a quick lead revision was necessary.  I ended up with 3 incisions, and the problem was found.  My leads were looped and stuck intertwined in scar tissue which made it stuck to my collarbone and muscle.  Everything was released and the leads were tucked behind the battery this time.  I decided not to just explant when there was weird pain because i felt the vns was helping.  I'm still healing, but it feels much better.  If you have any problems or concerns with the vns, make sure you talk to your neuro.  They are not all bad, and most people only post horror stories about the vns.  I find it more helpful than all kinds of meds, so i don't mind all the scars and stuff or the voice change.  It has made my life so much easier, despite the problems with the leads.  I don't regret having either surgery done.
