Wed, 05/31/2006 - 12:40
i am wondering if anyone has had persistant double vision following surgery. i had right temperal surgery alomost three week ago now. At first my double vision was everywhere, Now it seems that only some areas of my vision are effected but they dont seem to be getting any better. if anyone has experianced this long term or if you know of a way to perhaps exercise my vision into returning to normal it would be muchly appreciated,

I had left temporal lobe

I had left temporal lobe surgery in January and since that time had my eyes checked, only to discover one area of my vision is affected. The area affected is minor (no big deal)and coincides exactly with where I had my surgery. I was told the brain can take up to 2 years to completely repair itself. So, three weeks is nothing IMO... I'd suggest you mention your eye problems to your neuro but as I wrote to Corgielady in 'New to Epilepsy' there are a variety of after surgery effects and some don't heal immediately. ~sol

I had succesful surgery left temporal lobe almost 14 weeks ago, my eyesight is still not 100% normal however my surgeon has assured me what I am experiencing is only refractory and will return to normal within another 6 months - thats 9-10 months after the operation. I had an eye specialist try to prescribe prisms for my vision problems and double vision , my surgeon said I could use them for about another 2 months then they will be useless to me.All I need is new prescription reading glasses which have made a big difference for me. When I came home from surgery,I was shading my eyes all the time.and now can use eyes normally except for some double vision when I look in certain directions, I still have time until my eyes are normal. Have patience and look after yourself whilst recuperating from your op, and with time you'll be right. If you are concerned speak to your surgeon and Im sure he will assist you if you want any help.
