is surgery the right decision?

Mon, 07/14/2014 - 18:22
Hello to everyone! I am a new to this. My dad has suffered with epilepsy for as long as he can remember and has just found out that he was born with it. He has also been told he is a candidate for surgery (left temporal lobe). He is still in the process of deciding whether or not he wants the surgery. However, I was just wanted to know if anyone could tell me the possible side effects and the extent at which they can occur? Wshing you all the best! Thanks - a concerned daughter

Tim,  Glad to hear you on your story because I did the same exact thing you did. And I had the calcium in 1967 when I was born. Meds didnt do it. And the one thing I deal with the most is my short term memory each day. But its a small price to pay to get my life back.  I am even giving my life story in Minnesota this Thursday evening for Epileptic Foundation, that should be 3-400 people. And have wrote my speech and my daughters are saying how the surgery has changed there life. Its exciting. So, Stiffle  it was a great decision for me when medications wouldnt do it. Also lowering my three meds to half the amount has been great as far as side effects. And having things set with family members to step up and take care of him if needed for a while. But sometimes its not too bad. It all depends on getting some answers before hand.
