Second VNS surgery, being zapped

Sat, 12/13/2014 - 02:03

I am hoping there is someone else out there that has heard of this.  I had my first VNS in March of 2007.  Aside from swelling and difficulty talking, the surgery went well.  I had to have a revision in Sept 2014 because the original VNS was damaged during a mammogram.  The second surgery went great and I had very few side effects.  However, about 2 months after the surgery (1 month after having it turned back on) I am getting "zapped" starting in my neck and following the lead right down to the generator.  It varies in intensity and length, anywhere from 2 seconds to 20 seconds and it is very painful.  I went back to the surgeon who looked at a new xray and everything appears to be in place.  Since it is all new he does not suspect it is the VNS.  Has anybody else ever had this happen? It has been going on for several weeks now and happens at least once per day, usually at night.
