Right Temporal resection possible side effect or seizure?

Mon, 07/18/2016 - 23:38
I had complex partial seizures and recently had a right temporal lobe resection and removal of my hippocampus and amygdala and my seizures have been controlled since then. Within the lat 2 weeks I had 2 different episodes where I lost awareness for about 5 minutes. I didn't have any aura or display and signs of a seizure. I was able to function normally and carry on conversations and during one I was shopping but I don't remember any of it. The people I was with said I was acting normal throughout and they didn't notice anything wrong. Before surgery when I had a seizure I was unresponsive and always had an aura. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi Chrissy,I had a right temporal lobectomy almost 7 weeks ago. While I have had no seizures yet (touch wood!!!) I still am getting auras quite often. I got them almost as much before the surgery also though so for me it's almost like I didn't have the survey at all! Mostly because before the surgery I got the auras waaaay more than the seizures themselves. For me though, pre surgery, it would be on average every 10th time I had an aura I would have a seizure. Seeing as I have had waaaay more than 10 auras and no seizures yet that's def a good thing! I talked to my Neuro bout it and he (like yours) isn't too concerned as he also said it takes a while for the brain to settle down after surgery. The surgeon says 3 months and my neuro days could be up to 12 months or longer!I am still a little concerned though coz many ppl I have heard of who have had similar surgery haven't even had auras after.I wish you the best of luck on your journey to seizure freedom :-)
