Right Temporal Lobe Outlook Questions

So the Doctors say I'll be okay if I decide to have surgery- maybe a small blindspot if they cut up an optic nerve. Questions to those who have had this done- 1. Did you all have headaches? cause i don't even have headaches now and i've had a previous bran surgury to remove a brain tumor... 2. Can you remember things visually? I remember things mostly by saying to myself- oh well i walked past the table on the right and then put something down on the floor and then put the keys by the door so the keys are by the door... Does this seem to be something that would be gone after surgery? 3. Do you dream? I have awesome, crazy, vivid dreams now and some, are seizure related i know but I don't want to just never dream again- so do you dream? 4. Has there been anything and i mean anything that you have lost the ability to do in it's full capacity whether it be remembering a recipe to drawing a picture since you've had this done- i'm a fairly creative person and i'm afraid that well, they'll cut all the creativeness out! p.s. your jaws were sore because they cut the muscle that holds your jaws to your skull in order to cut your skulls open.- sorry to be creepy Thanks Amanda

I had a RTL back 1/13/98 and to answer your ?'s in Order, #1 I do have more headaches now but only if I ware hair clips or other types of hair accessories that apply pressure to my head. #2 My visually memory was not effected but my long and short term was, however I knew going into my surgey it as a possibility. #3 My dream are no different than before my surgery. #4 As far as lossing anything in it's full capacity and the key word being "Full", the answer would be NO. Good luck, Dovie 0(*_*)0 Yes I went throught a long period where I could not fully open my mouth or chew without pain. They did not just cut jaw muscle but sawed the Right side of my jaw in half. The temprol lobe goes behind the jaw and to get to it they cut the jaw bone but them put it back together with screws. I have 2 screws that hold it together. After my surgery it was painful to open my mouth more than a small amount. I would have to flatten things like a sandwich very small and push it in my mouth that I could only open a little ways. This lasted about 7 to 10 day if I remember correctly.

Amanda- I too had a RTL 8/21/02 & in response to your questions: 1. I very definitely still have headaches (I also had headaches prior to surgery due to the tumor that has been removed). 2. My memory in all ways has been affected. It is a challenge (some days more than others) to remember many things. I still do best if I read something multiple times and also write it down. Even then there's no guarantee that I'll recall it later. 3. I do still dream but not like before (thank goodness). I had many many vivid dreams and a lot of them were nightmares, prior to surgery. I do still get them but not nearly as frequently. 4. No, nothing lost in its FULL capacity. Patial capacity would be memory, patience, emotional control, some processing capabilities. All in all I'd do it again... stef
