Post temporal lobe resection and ear infections

Sun, 07/14/2013 - 13:01
Hi :o) I have a question for those out there who have undergone temporal lobectomy surgery; following your surgery, have you experienced issues with sinuses on the side you had your surgery? I had a right temporal lobe resection three years ago, and pre surgery, I've always experienced seasonal allergies. Since my surgery, each time I have allergies, I develop inner ear infections in my right ear. The ear infections usually happen twice a year. I do take Zyrtec, and my Neti pot is wonderful about keeping my sinuses clear, but if I don't stay right on top of the Neti pot use, I inevitably end up with these ear infections. I feel the same dizziness, vertigo and nausea that I did post surgery. My neurosurgeon did tell me that my sinus cavities would function differently on my right side post surgery, but this seems excessive. I'm really just wondering right now if anyone else has had similiar experiences post temporal lobectomy.

I'm so relieved to finally come upon someone who has this issue which is somewhat similar to mine. I found this post when I was searching the web for some answers to what I've been going through. I'm new to these discussions and have only been a part of the chat room at this site a few years ago. I had a right temporal lobectomy 7 years ago and I remember having ear pain in my right ear during my stay in the hospital. I told the doctor and it was treated as a non issue and I was given something for my head pain but the ear pain was much worse. Now I'm wondering what this surgery did to my ear because I've had many partial seizures since then that are nothing like the pre-surgery ones. They are mostly auditory distortions along with weird feelings. Just the past few months I found out that I have allergies with earaches and coughing. I've just started loratidine which is Claritin. I don't know what happened to my ear and if the surgery did something to it to cause these kind of seizures which are very disturbing and all the earaches I get. I've been on innumerable seizure medications and now on the strongest one, Felbatol, which has very risky side effects. I never thought to ask the neurologist if there is any connection with the surgery, my ear, and the seizures but now I will.
