Post surgical side effects of anticonvulsants.

Wed, 01/14/2015 - 19:53

Hello, Several years ago I underwent a temporal lobectomy due to seizures that worsened after a car accident. My medications were increased in the time between the accident, where the seizures worsened, and the time of the surgery. I am thankfully now 3 years seizure free! My question is about the impacts of surgery with anticonvulsants. Being on high doses of Keppra and Trileptal post surgery has given me the experience of worse side effects than were produced before the surgery. Many mornings I am experiencing vertigo within 45 minutes of taking these medications, and dizziness that can last several hours.  Would the concept of the same amount of meds going to fewer neurons have any validity? has anyone ever heard about this before, or know of any resources that discuss this? I'd like to be an empowered patient before I begin the discussion of medication adjustment with my neurologist. Thank you in advance for your time!
