Post Operative: Left Temporal Lobectomy

Fri, 03/03/2006 - 07:28
My boyfriend had a left temporal lobectomy two weeks ago. He's recovering nicely, however, he's having significant problems with short term memory and "tip of the tongue" phenomenon. However, his doctors told him that would happen. Nonetheless, he is *very* frustrated that he can't remember new things. He just returned to work two days ago, and the frustration is constant. Are there any tools or natural remedies that will help him improve his short-term memory? I know this is a very difficult thing for him, and I'd like to be able to help him any way that I can.

Oh it will be hard for a bit. I know when I came home I was trying to relearn some things again. It does take time. But I write things down and the full directions of how to do certain things and place it in a copybook for a little bit till he learns it again. Place sticky notes around the house, at work, the directions.... Make sure he is on a good diet with GOOD Fats that can help the brain. I know for me, omega three has helped with my memory and seizures too. But talk with your doctor before making any changes. take care Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/EpilepsyApproach/

"Changing the misconceptions society has about epilepsy, by educating one person at a time"....Lisa-Marie Kinsman I had left temporal surgery done 11 yrs ago, and I also had trouble saying words that were right on the tip of my tongue. That will pass. His brain is still swollen from the surgery most likely. To improve my memory ( short term ) I doing puzzles, play Scrabble, Literati on yahoo, QWERTY on AOL, and work very hard at my memory. It CAN be done but you have to work very hard at it on a daily basis like I and others do. Lisa-Marie

He's taking an Omega-3 cap and Co-Q10 and Gingko Biloba--have you tried anything besides the Omega-3?
