A New Trial Surgery

Tue, 01/31/2006 - 21:13
There is a brand new surgery that is still in the trial stage of production, that I was wanting to discuss and possibly get some opinions on it. This is the surgery of: Interceptâ„¢ Epilepsy Control System. This is similar to the VNS, in a sense. However, this device is placed directly on your brain. And it is not left on, to go 'discharge' in time intervals, instead it detects when the seizure is going to occur and initiates the interruption (stopping) of those seizures. That is a very brief explanation. If anyone has had this device already implanted I would love to talk about it. If not, I am leaving the website for its total explanation. Could you check out the website and tell me what you think? Because my doctor has referenced me to the neurosurgeons as a Canidate. I have plenty of seizures to meet the criteria. (Ok, way to many, to say the least) :) Thanks a lot. Javajunkie

Well, it didn't take my website. So here it is the old-fashioned way. Sorry if you have to cut and paste. http://www.epilepsycontrol.com/index.html?c=google_ppc&kw=epilepsy_surgery

I read the article from the link you supplied. It sounds fascinating, hopeful and promising. Like you, I would love to read from someone who has had it done. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread! Smiles! -Spiz

This is called Vagus Nerve Stimulation, I am about to go into Loyola Hospital in Maywood (outside Chicago) the week of February 13, 2006. After being monitored w/o my meds for up to five (5) days to see how I react, this is an option the Neurologist is considering for me. It is very interesting as this implant can also aid those with severe depression which I also have. Below is a link to a lot of information on VNS and I will get back to you with the doctor's decision. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-39,GGLG:en&q=vagus+nerve+stimulation Good health to you, Jeanne
