Looking for best Surgical facilities

Thu, 12/15/2011 - 11:10
Hi All, About two months ago I finished all necessary pre-operative testing needed to determine if I was a candidate for surgery. My epileptologist sent me to the local Neurosurgeon here in Tampa (Dr. Fernando Vale) and the Nuerosurgeon wasn't very confident that surgery would help with my seizures. I went back to my epileptologist and he indicated all the data shows him that surgery is my best option and that I should go see another Nuerosurgeon. He pointed me to Mass. General Hospital in Boston, NYU, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. or Yale. I am trying to decide where to go for the second opinion and was hoping someone might have insight on any of these facilities (or any others on the East Coast or Midwest) and the Nuerosurgeon(s) at these facilities? Thanks in advance, Paul

Hello Paul. I had to have surgery, matter of fact several. I did go through TGH with the USF group. Dr. Vale did both of my surgeries. He is a very good surgeon and I have total faith in him that's for sure. My neurologists is with USF/TGH and has been posted on this site is Dr. Benbadis. They have shown me time and time again that they are working in my best interest. I had a neurologist in Orlando that sent me to Dr. Benbadis and Vale. I hope you do find someone that you feel comfortable with as I have with them.

I was evaluated recently and I am a candidate for surgery for CP siezures. I also had a neurologist in Orlando refer me to Dr. Chabolla in Jacksonville, he was formerly associated with the Mayo now working out of St. Vincent. I trust his diagonosis but I have not as of yet held my conference with him and the surgeon as I am continuing to do base line neurological testing in preparation for surgery sometime after the first of the year. Dr. Chabolla was great for me.
