Left temporal lobe surgery

Sat, 07/18/2015 - 17:00

Hello All,

Two years ago I went through the testing to see if surgery was a possibility. They had determined that because I had activity on both sides that I was not. Well we have been considering the RNS. My eptileptologist presented my case at their review yesterday. He called me today saying that the specialists believe that the activity on the right actually is being started by my left side and that all seizures are starting on the left temporal lobe so now they believe recessitive surgery is the way to go. Will be seeing the neurosurgeon soon. Has anyone had this happen?

I was diagnosed w/Complex Partial Seizures (1996),  lost my job as a Police Office/Investigator. About a yr w/o a job I went to work as Correct Officer for the State of Texas and a few later as Investigator w/another state agency and lost that job as a result of these seizures.  I was on all kinds of medication and also had VNS surgery no still not luck. In 2012 while working again as a Correctional Officer and a Trainer in the law enforcement field, I decided to take my life back.  I met with my docs and they referred me to the" Mischer Neuroscience Institute" part of the UT Health System in Houston and by the grace of God the surgery was a success.  I have been seizure free without medication for 3 1/2 years, i see my Neurologist  once a year now and the funny thing about all this is I that i just started last week at the police department were I lost my job as result of me being diagnosed w/Complex Partial Seizures...and I was received with open arms  by former co-workers...I wish you well on your surgery and know their is light at the end of the tunnel...God Bless you.

I feel the same way about having the surgery since I am having about 5 a year but think it would be worth it to possibly get rid of the five a year I am having. Good Luck! Paul
