invasive seizure monitoring

Thu, 05/09/2013 - 09:46
I had the EEG seizure monitoring done  but the seizures occurred too fast and they couldn't localize where they originated so I am contimplating the invasive monitoring in hopes that I could have surgery. Can anyone tell me about your experience with this? Thanks so much.

I know this reply is coming very late after you posted.  I am surprised that nobody had replied to your question.  I am sure that by now you have had the monitoring and hope that the test was able to give you and your doctor more information and options.

I went through the intracranial monitoring (I think it is the same as what you call invasive monitoring).  My experience with it was not bad at all.  Yes, you are hooked up to a machine, look like Medusa, and can't go outside of your room ( they gave me just enough wires so I could use the bathroom) because of the wires but it is not painful. It was uncomfortable because the wires, and bandages where bulky but not painful.  I stayed in there for the monitoring for 49 days and I did not really have pain.  It was well worth it for the chance to be seizure free.  The only thing about the monitoring was that I got bored.  There wasn't much I could do but read, surf the internet, and watch tv.

I hope you are doing well, and hope your seizures are either better controlled or stopped completely.  Take care.
