Yes - i heard about this about 6-7 years ago but never had it done. From what I remember, it is a 3 point (3D) location surgery where a "cage" is put on your head and using the 3D scan, each laser is aimed at the target.

Your pre surgery needs a 3D scan. This is put into a computer for the locators and not manually located.

It is not supposed to destroy any veins or artieries. The target, while in operation, is viewed by a continuous x-ray put up on a monitor. It could take less than one hour with no cutting.

I didnt hear anything about staying awake, but if the lasers are anchored to your head, it wouldnt matter if you move around.

I heard of one person who had a tumor removed sucessfly. There was not much more I heard about EP.

Only one drawback. If it is found to be near a nerve to your eye, or other major nerves, surgeons are not likely to do this.

I will be having the MRI laser guided surgery February 8th at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, Florida.  I have right temporal lobe epilepsy and after test I am a very good canidate for this surgery.  They are doing a study for this kind of surgery and my epileptolost is very excited about the results he believes I will have. This could be great for people with epilepsy depending on what kind of seizures they have and where the focus  of their seizures are.

Oh wow, haven't heard of this procedure before but will look into it.  I have RTLE as well and am starting the process to see if I would be a surgical candidate.  Keep us posted with how it goes and best of luck!
