Sun, 11/20/2005 - 06:02
My name is Eric and I have had Epilepsy for more than 25 yrs. they have never been under complete control. So on nov. 11 I was implanted with the VNS. At first everything was going great then at about the fith day everything just started to come crashing down. It first started with a few petit-mals then on saturday I had a really bad gran-mal and got hurt. I was wondering is there anyone out there that has this device? If so what kind of sucess have you had with it and when did it start working for you?

Hi Eric, I had the VNS implanted on October 12 this year, so about 6 weeks ago. I have not yet seen a decrease in seizures, but my epileptologist told me that I should not expect any results until my settings had been adjusted a few times. I had the settings changed on 10/31, and will do so again on 11/29. When I have them changed in December, I will reach the setting that should start showing some changes. I have not had any problems with the VNS itself, and each time the settings are changed, it takes about a week for me to adjust to the new voltage. Make sure you keep a seizure diary, and let your doctor know if seizures are increasing, or you notice any problems. I hope things improve for you ! ((( hugs ))), Barbie "Everyone has his burden.
