3yr old may need surgery - please help

Tue, 08/22/2006 - 12:23
Hi, Our neurologists are suggesting we look into surgery for our three year old. She has quite a bit of brain damage on the rt side possibly from stroke (we adopted at 12 mos & have no history). I've read that often in cases of stroke and cerebral Palsy they need to remove one half of the brain. I'm overwhelmed & terrified. Does anyone know of good places to start as far as research? Has anyone had sucess w/ this surgery? Thanks, Jane

First let me say how sorry I am. I had a RTL (Right Temprol Lobectomy) 1/13/98 and can only speak for myself, but it was a life saver. I have been seizure free for over 8 years and med free for over 7. Has your childs Dr. even talked to you about all the test involved just to see if she may be a candidate for surgery? If not then that is where I would start asking questions. There is many test involved, for exp. VEEG,WADA,Neuropsych., SPECT and several others based on her case.
