Seizure Prediction

Tue, 07/21/2009 - 11:42

I am currently involved in research that, if successful, would make it possible to predict seizures prior to onset. It is in the preliminary stage and we are at a point where we are looking for volunteers to test a non invasive device to be worn and/or used on a daily basis. What are your thoughts on such a device? Would it be something you would find very helpful? Would it be something you would be interested in purchasing in the future and if so, how much would you reasonably expect to pay for such a device if it was commercially available?

Would anyone in the Providence, RI/Southeastern, MA are be willing to volunteer to assist us?

We welcome any and all comments.     Thanks!

My son is 22 years old.  he had left temprol lobe resection at Boston Childrens hospital in 2002.  He is having complex partical seizures affecting his speech and getting very shaky.  Last 2 to 4 minutes.  He has no memory of the seizure.  The seizures are affecting his quality of life.  If he could predict when they were coming if would be very helpful.  Any cost would be well worth the money.

We would be willing to participate in your study.

Sincerely,

Gayla Riccard

Thanks for your response, Gayla. Please understand that we are in very early stages of research and seek volunteers to help establish if our "idea" can be translated in to a device. This is the reason I cannot be more specific concerning this possible device. My role is to assist the principal investigator as part of a summer internship at URI and obtain as much information as possible from the epileptic community. I very much appreciate your offer to volunteer and will pass it along. Someone will be in touch with you in the very near future.

Thanks again and best of luck with your son.
