Would you medicate ?

Fri, 07/15/2016 - 04:19
Hello newbie here! Our 9 year old child has just been diagnosed. 5 seizures over the last 2 years (that we know about) - all have been just as awakening and lasted under 5 minutes (jerking, drooling and coughing breathing noise) Are there any opinions on whether to medicate ? We have been recommended Keppra but are as the seizures are so rare we're undecided about whether to medicate. Apart from the possible side effects, we wouldn't know if the medication was working as they happen so infrequently Any advice please ? Anyone been in the same position ? Any feedback on Keppra ? Thanks

start with each partDiagnosed  Has had 5 seizues in the last 2 years (that you know about) jerking, drooling lasting 5 minutes or less..whether to medicat or not. recommended Keppra but seizures are rare, So oyu are undecided whether to medicate or not  If the neurologist prescribed keppra then he is basically saying start the medication. The longer you wait the more rapid th seizures will become and the stronger they will be. I notes what happened with me and my experiances. We knew nothing about seizures until I had the grand mal. It wasn't until almost 2 years later that the diagnosis was made. If w had known I had been having seizures and medications would have stopped the seizures I was having then I might not have had th grand mal seizure. You are only aware of the seizures that have lasted some time and you saw the drooling and jerking. I don't think you want to see his entire body convulsingI hope this helps and your child gets seizure freeJoe
