Vaccinations and Seizures

Mon, 10/09/2006 - 10:49
Hello, I was just wondering if anyone has experienced what my family and I have gone through with our son Zachoree. Zach had infantile spasms at 4 mos, treated with ACTH, went through the developmental regression, fully recovered with no developmental delays. Was discharged and had resumed a normal life of infant and toddler, seizure-free. It wasn't till this summer when they wanted to resume his vaccines and therefore "catch him up", that the new seizures began to appear. This time, they are stronger and more frequent, and without relief. Several meds have failed. Just curious if this has happened to anyone else?

Hi, I have four children, two of which have CPS. When my last daughter was born in 2000 she started infantile spasms after having whooping cough jab. Started meds, sezures stopped and all was normal until last year when she started having staring episodes. These were not brought on by jabs this time although I have done so much research about it from before. If there is any family history(as there is in ours, husbands cousins and aunts) then your child should be carefully considered for whooping cough and meningitus jab. Also if you have any genetic connection with your partner, ie distantly related then you should consider that also. Children that have epilepsy should not have (in my experience) any jabs other than dyptheria, tetnus and polio. That aside i believe all jabs are very important, just not for those children with a history of epilepsy. Hope it helps.
