Status seizures

Fri, 01/29/2016 - 15:40

Good afternoon,

I'm very new to this group and forum.  I am hoping to find someone who has experienced what we have, although I know there are so many different types of seizures.  My daughter is 7.  She had a febrile seizure when she was about 18 months.  Almost a year to the day after that, she had a seizure that became status.  She had an EEG done and other tests, but the doctors decided to wait and see before they put her on any anti seizure meds.  Almost another year went by and she had another seizure that again went status.  She was put on zonegran, and it worked great-we were scheduled to have a final EEG to see if we could wean her off the meds...until this year. She didn't have any seizures for 3 years until this year.  She's had 4 seizures this year, all status.  We do carry Diastat with us everywhere.  We've been instructed to give it to her immediately now rather than wait the 5 minutes because her seizures are always status.  Half the time the Diastat stops the seizure, but the rest of the time, it doesn't, and she needs Ativan and a hospital stay. Has anyone ever had epilepsy where they always become status? She's never come out of a seizure on her own.   I'm so grateful that she's only had 7 seizures, because I know it could be so much worse.  But it terrifies me that if she has one in her sleep, she'd never come out of it.  Oh, and we have recently switched her meds to Lamotrigine.  So far so good.  Thank you for reading!
