Seizure Clusters

Tue, 02/10/2015 - 21:30

Hello Everyone,

My 3 year old began having seizures in Nov 2014. He appears to have seizure clusters. He went 2 months seizure free. He began having seizure clusters again 3 weeks ago and having them more frequent. Does anyone else have similar story? Just trying to learn more. Thanks,T

I am the one with epilepsy..

I am the one with epilepsy.. There are times when I have back to back seizures (clusters)  I talked to my neurologist and he prescribed a recovery medication. I take it after the first seizure and the cluster never happens. If this were my child I would call his neuro and discuss this with him. I know recovery medications work but I do not know what age limits are or the kind of medication they have for children. I hope this helps and you get this issue resolved Joe

Hi Joe,They have prescribed him diazepam. In the last 3 weeks, I have given it to him 3 times. Except the last time, he continued to have them and we had to go to the ER. We went to the neuro today and they decide to switch meds from trileptal to keppra. So we will see if this helps.

Keppra is becomming the go to

Keppra is becomming the go to medication. I use it and have for years. It not only reduced the number of my seizures. It also shortened the time in those seizures an dthe time to get back to normal. I can say that it is the best medication I have used in the 50+ years I have lived and dealt with epilepsy.
