Scared to sleep/Increase in seizures

So Kaitlyn has been taking Trileptal for over a week and we are now giving her two doses a day, soon to be 3 doses a day. The day that she started it she started having a different kind of seizure than I have seen before where she did this eye blinking, she has been doing one of those a day or more since the start of the medicine. She has also decided that she doesn't want to nap and will not go to sleep on her own. So we are having to lay in there with her. It almost seems as though she is scared to sleep. So last night I am sitting on her bed while she is supposed to be falling asleep and she was starting to fall asleep when all of the sudden she would arch her back, stiffen up and her eyes would be wide open, not blinking. It would last about 5 seconds give or take. She did this about 4-5 times. She would then be falling asleep again and would out of no where open her eyes and say some word over and over again but wouldn't make sense and didn't really seem with it. Does anyone know what this is? Does it seem possible that the Trileptal could be causing it all?? Or is it just that I am noticing more of it? Before we started the Trileptal didn't have hardly any noticeable seizures unless I was just in that big of a denial mode that I wasn't catching them, which I suppose is possible.

Hi Emily, I have read somewhere that while falling asleep and when first awaking are two of the most frequest times to have a seizure. But I would hope that the AED would stop seizures, not bring out new ones. I wish I had helpful advice. I'm Molly's Mom and Proud of It!

Some Seizure Meds can actually increase seizure activity. My daughter Abigail has a severe seizure dissorder and anytime we add a med that can cause drowsiness she always has more. She always has more seizures going in and out of sleep. She only sleeps few hours at night but when given med to help her sleep the seizures got worse. Also she would fight going to sleep because she knew she would have one if she dozed off. But what do you do? They have to sleep sometime. Good Luck. Abby's Mom
