New to the site-new to seizures

Fri, 01/26/2007 - 10:31
I am being impatient, I know, but somebody please read my post in the new to epilepsy section. I didn't think I should put the whole thing in here as well, but thought that maybe I chose to put it in the wrong section in the first place. I kind of feel like the lone ranger trying to figure out what is going on with my daughter, and it would just make me feel better if somebody...anybody would read and respond. I think she was experiencing some bad side effects from her Trileptal last night (belly ache making her cry for 45 minutes and a flushed face) and I am nervous about giving it to her this morning. I know I have to, but I am scared of it hurting her again. She has been having "seizures" for a year now, but we are new to Trileptal and it is all just starting to sink in. Mom is feeling a little stressed and panicked.

Sorry to hear that !!!. Even we are new to this whole seizure thing - hardly a month since our 23 months old daughter had petit mal or absence seizures. Coming to this forum is giving us an opportunity to share our experiences/ concerns /suggestions with others and come to terms with this seizure thing. It is unfortunate that children have to go thru these pains. It is very difficult, I understand. Work with your doctor and have her medication changed.. May be try it atleast couple of more times before opting for a change. From what I have been reading in all these forums, most of us go thru the same experience of trying to identify a medication that will suit our children..We had to change from Zarontin to Depakote. Even now we are not convinced that Depakote is good for her as my daughter's appetite is pretty bad and she eats hardly anything.. Then again, please don't loose hope. I just keep praying God to give us the energy to go come this dreaded experience. Take Care. Keep calm and Pray .. Regards Srini.S

my daughter has been on trileptal now for 4 yrs.she started having seizures when she was 27months old.she to complains of stomach aches from time to time.we look at changing her medicine and decided not to.all the medicines seem to have some kind of a side affect.after talking to two nero we decided the stomach ache was the "easiest"to deal with.if it gets to bad sometimes we give her childrens pepto.it seems to work.the guessing game to figure out what the best choice is isnever easy and it seems that what ever choice is made you always second guess.I guess thats what makes us good parents.I no from my research that trileptal hade fewer side effects and requires less to no blood testing.as to were some of the oter meds require routine blood testing.my daughters old nero was doing routine blood testing and now shes back at loma linda and i found out that wasnt necessary.that was the benifit of the trileptal.after watching my daughter go through all of the blood tests for really no reason I'M happy I have kept her on it.now she doesnt have to go through anymore routine testing.you well have lots of ups and downs.thats what we are all here for.I hope your daughter feels better soon.most of the time it is short lived.hang in there it will get alittle easier.
