New & Frustrated

Hello, my name is Cindi and my 9 yr old son Dylan was dx'ed with having Complex Partial seizures last Oct. Our Neurologist put him on Tegratol 100 mg and has increased it to 400 mg. The seizures seemed to stop for quite some time but recently began again. This time has been much different though. First the Dr. is increasing his Tegratol to 800 mg. and added Topamax starting at 25 mg but increasing gradually to 200 mg. Dylan's seizures have also changed. He used to just drop to the floor and stare blankly and come around within a couple of min. But recently he has started to loose control of his urine, and now his eyes are no longer open instead he appears to be sleeping, only I can't wake him. The seizures are now lasting 30-45 min. Yesterday at school he had another one, I arrived 15 min into the seizure and in an hour he was still not responding to us. The school called 911 and they took him to the hospital which was about 20 min away and he had just started to talk to us and opened his eyes when we were a block from the hospital. This was an hour later. The PA that saw us at the ER was an idiot! I was fumming by the time we left there. She told my husband and I that our son was FAKING this! OMG I was fit to be tied. First of all our son also has Bipolar and this child literally bounces off the walls 24 7 . He has to take sleeping meds at night just so he will go to sleep. So please don't tell me this child that can not sit still for 5 min. just faked this for a whole hour! Its just not possible with him. ok now if this is so then WHY would they have given him Dilantin. Oh I am just so frustrated. Dylan is having another EEG done on Monday although I am not sure why. He had one back in Dec. and it came back normal. So I am really not sure why they are doing another one now unless maybe to compare it with the last one maybe?? Does anyone else have a child with Bipolar disorder and seizures? I can't help but wonder does one have anything to do with the other. I asked our Nero that and he says they are 2 seperate issues but I wonder about that. It just seems this poor kid has alot of "Brain" issues to deal with. Sorry for rambling on and on but I am just at my wits end. Thanks for reading Cindi

Cindi, I have a child with seizures, but not bipolar, but I can understand your frustration at being told your child is faking it. My daughter has had numerous EEGs and all of them have come back normal, now I am being told they might not even be real seizures. Give me a break. She is only 9, she faked her grand mals, she is faking her absence seizures? Lets get serious here, How come if doctors cant find answers they say that, they are not real. I wish they could understand what our kids are going through. Feel free to contact me if you need to vent, I understand about that. I hope you find some answers. Mom to Lauren age 9,
