Thu, 09/18/2014 - 21:47My daughter is 6 and so far has had two seizures since she was four. I found out after the first one that her brain is smoother than most children her age. To make matters worse I found that she had a brain Hemmorrage at or slightly before birth. She s having problems remembering and school is even worse. Can a complex partial seizure affect my childs learning ability?

Hi! My daughter was diagnosed with atypical absence and clonic seizures in June. She would go into a blank stare and we would think she was day dreaming or just ignoring us, but it was a seizure. When this happens she is unconscious and unresponsive for that short period until it's over. She's on meds to control them but her doctor explained that if they aren't under control it could affect her learning bc for example, if the teacher is saying something and she has one, she has missed what was said and doesn't even know it. She's on meds three times a day to control them. I think the same type thing happens with the complex partial seizures, the " blank stare" and they are unaware of what is going on during that time. Is your daughter on medication or has she had an EEG? Hope that helps!
