My daughter has gone off her food

Mon, 06/25/2007 - 16:56
Hi, my daughter is 6 years old and has absence epilepsy. She is currently on two medications to control the seizures. The problem is that she seems to have gone off most of her food. She won’t eat any cereals, bread (including pitta bread, wraps, bagels), she also has a distaste for meat. I am struggling to find healthy alternatives and for things to put into her lunch box (they do not do school dinners at her school). It is a bit of a catch 22, as she is eating so little she is getting tired, irritable and has very little concentration. I am wondering if there are any vitamins I should be giving her, or any suggestions. Thank you Annabel

My daugther is the same way. Our neuro told us to give her a basic multi vitamin to help her get the nutrients that she needs. I was also told to use Carnation Instant Breakfast with Pedia Sure to help her get some of the calories and what not in her diet. Since she is not eating we are just trying to get her to eat whatever she will eat, no matter what that may be.

Have you talked to your neruo about changing meds?My daughter is also six.She has complex/simple partial seizure. She also has censory seizures. She was on trileptal but is now taking lamictal. These two meds didnt affect her eating. Theres an omega three vitamin called "child Life".Its butterscotch flavored so its not bad and it mixes well with juices. She also needs more protien. Instant breakfast has good protien and so does some yogurts if you can get her to eat them. As for school lunches that is a hard one. Will she eat peanut butter? That is also high in protien. If you can get her to eat peanut butter even by it self you could put it in a bowel and send it with a spoon.Thats all I can think of at the moment.I will keep my eyes out for more things.
