My 12 year old has epilepsy!

Thu, 01/05/2017 - 11:42
my daughter Maddy, 12 was diagnosed with Absence epilepsy two years ago. For years we just thought she wasn't paying attention and wasn't focused. When we found out she had epilepsy and she started taking her medicine it was like night and day. All of a sudden her grades improved and she became a social butterfly at school. I had just gotten comfortible with this type of epilepsy, took it for granted that this was the better type of epilepsy that most people get. Then in June Maddy suffered a Grand Mal Seisure. That tore my world apart. I didn't know what to do and it felt like it took forever for the ambulace to arrive. We also happened to be out of town for my fathers funeral. Since then in the last 6 months she hasn't had another one, but Im afraid to let her out of my sight. Every time the phone rings and the caller ID says her schools name my first thought is oh God maddy had a seizure. I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night just to check on her. We have a camera monitor in her room for a couple of months but everytime she moved I would wake up in a panick, so my husband took it out. I feel like a failure as a parent because I can't help her. My friend recommended me join a chat group with other people in my situation and thought it would help~
