Migraines & Epilepsy?

Thu, 05/10/2007 - 18:39
My 8 yo. son was just diagnosed with absence seizures which we think started last summer or about 1 year ago. He is having a headache spell right now for the last 1 1/2 hours with two bouts of vomiting. He has had this before (about 5 times in a years time) and I attributed it to getting over heated or exhaustion brought on by several late nights in a row. Today, I realized that I had heard of migrain sufferers vomiting and being sensitive to light and noise. Has anyone else experienced this in their children? Since we just left the ped. neuro's office, I'm sure it will be a while before we can get in again. Kim in CA

Hi I can relate to this because when I was younger I used to have the same problem. I used to get extreamly bad minegranes and they would cause me to be sick and very senative to light. All I could do was go and lay down in my room with every light off and not a single sound near my door. Mine were caused by me haveing a lazy eye and also from caffine.

I also have an 8 year old with BRE. She was diagnosed in august and had a few seizures 6 months later until she was put on meds and has been seizure free since. A few weeks ago she did have this migrane throw up attack after we took the meds two hours after reg. bed time and in the morning she awoke with this migrane and throwing up! It lasted about 6 hours and we took a double dose of motrin and that finally worked. I am not sure what triggered the migrane..or if she had any seizure activity. nothing that i realized though in the night. I am not sure if the migrane just came from a later bed time and later dose of medicine. what do you think?

Hi Kim, I have a 8 yr son too who has absence seizures and migrains with vomiting episodes. He has been diagnosed with Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome. We go through periods of weekly vomiting sometime with & with out headaches. Then we have gone a whole year with out an episode. Its hard to tell if he has had an absence seizure or if it is a Cyclic episode because usually after his seizures he will vomit and be very tired just like the Cyclic. This has been very frustrating for us because we arent quite sure if his meds are really working. He also gets over heated really easly and will vomit like after playing soccer & baseball. Our Nuro said thats just part of Cyclic. Anyway if you would like to contact me feel free. I know I am rather late in responding to your blog but its just been a while since I have been on the site.
