low white blood count?

Sat, 08/04/2007 - 17:08
Does anyone have any information on Trileptal causing a drop in white blood cells? My son, Brady who is 2, had blood work which showed a drop in his white blood cell count. He has been on Trileptal for a year with no problems. His neuro didn't give much info, am waiting on a call from the pediatrician. Has anyone had this happen? Should I be concerned? Rachael

I havent heard of seizure meds lowering the blood cell count.Normally if the white blood cell count is low it is a sign of a virus infection. As long as its not to low or stay low for along period of time. He could just be fighting off an infection. How low was it?

I don't have specific numbers and I don't think Brady is fighting off an infection. When he gets sick I usually know. I have done a little research which indicates that tegretol causes the drop in white blood cells. Also I believe my son might be on too much trileptal, he's only 2 and takes 600 mg a day. I'm still waiting on his pediatrician to get back to me, Brady might have to see a hemotologist for more blood work. Thanks for your thoughts on this.
