Losing body/muscle control when sick?

Tue, 08/23/2016 - 01:47
My 45 yo brother has epilepsy and cognitive impairment as well. In recent years, when he gets sick (e.g. viral infection, etc.), he frequently loses control of his body. What I mean is that he has tremendous difficulty walking and ends up crawling everywhere, he has trouble forming words and slurs so badly that we can't understand his speech, and sometimes he flails his arms as if he can't regulate the muscle activity. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Is it something that occurs with epilepsy, or should I look elsewhere for an explanation? Thanks!

any sickness affects medications so what you posted could be parts of his seizure control because the medications therapeutic level is lower while he is being sick. You might talk to his neurologist about this especially if it only happens at these times
