Keppra Withdrawal?

Sun, 06/03/2007 - 21:15
My 12 month old daughter was recently weaned off of Keppra (3 ml 2 times per day to nothing over 8 days). Since she got her last dose yesterday morning she has had trouble sleeping at night and is having tremors. Are these symptoms of withdraw or do we have something else going on here? She has Benign Myoclonic Epilepsy of Infancy and is currently taking 2 ml of Depakene 3xs per day. Thanks for the info. Jenn

I am suprised they weaned her off only in 8 days! My daughter, 21 months old is being weaned off of topamax while being put on lamictal. It will take six weeks for her to be weaned off of the topamax. -Maggie

When we came off topomax it was cold turkey. She was having a major allergic reaction (only on it for 8 days) and we were going into the EMU for monitoring two days later anyway. He wanted her off to make sure the Keppra wasn't effecting the depakene anymore (caused her levels to be higher than they should be and at this age the liver damage issue is a big concern, especially when dealing with children who could win millions in vegas playing the odds!). I can't believe that they

I can't believe that they would have you wean her down so fast, it took us 3 1/2 weeks to get my daugther up to 2 ml's 2 times daily. I do think that these sound like symptoms of withdrawl. Have you contacted your doctor about it?? I just can't imagine!! How long did it take you guys to her that level in the first place? What were you increases like?? Do you mind if I ask why you took her off of Keppra? My daugther just started Keppra, and we have been having some side effects (behavior) but I'm trying to wait it out. What was your experience like with your daugther on it? GOOD LUCK!! Call the doctor and let them know what is going on. Emily
