Keppra for 1 Year old?

Tue, 08/16/2016 - 16:25
Hi everyone, I am very new to this and am not sure if I am even in the right place to ask this question. My one year old daughter has been having multiple seizures since April, they haven't officially diagnosed her with anything yet, but her primary doctor wants to start her on Keppra until the 31st when we travel 6 hours to the closest pediatric neurologist. I know this medicine is notorious for causing behavioral changes and was curious if anyone here has experience with a young child on it? I am a disaster and would aprpeciate any sort of help! This is all very very new and foreign to me.

Follow her foctors wish and have her taking the keppra. Side effects do happen. But until you have given it to her you will never know if she will be one of the 5-8% of the people that get one of the side effects. If you are reading the posts about the medication causeing thngs to go nuts tehn understand that those are some of the 5-8% that have taken it and it caused issues for them. Which means you havem't read anything from the 92-95% that have taken it and it is working fine. I have used it for close to 15 years now. It has been the best medication I have ever used in the years I have been living and dealing with epilepsy. The rhing you might have a problem with is whay it tastes like. I thinkl Amy Jo posted that, If you go to the medications section or the partents section yo might see where people put it in juice. Some put it in chocolate milk. But without starting the medication you are delaying treatment. For me my seizures became more rapid and stronger but we didn't know they were seizures.I hope this helps and your daughter gets seizure freeJoe

For all of you especially the new people. Please go to the help section and get the EF My Epilepsy Diary. It can help you. It has a notepad in it and all kinds of other things that can help with knowing meds have been taken, what their mood is, possible. triggers There is an asp for it. Oh and you can give the neurologist permission to bring it up and he can look at that info along with the graphs which can help them with medications, dosages and other procedures.
