I dont know where to start

Hi everyone, I just found this site and am so happy to know there are other people who are going thru what i am going thru as a parent. Im sorry we have to go thru it though. My son is 3 1/2 he had seizures as a 2 week old, they determined they were caused by encephilitis. so we figured once that was cleared up he'd be seizure free. They put him on Phenobarb for about 6 months and he had been seizure free until about a month ago. We were driving home from lunch and i heard a grunting in the back of the car, my son was having a grand mal seizure. I never thought I'd see that ever again. I was so shocked. Thank God my husband was with me. Unfortunately my daughter had to see it and my reaction. She still talks about it....alot. Little history.....my son has PDD-NOS-Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. He has had PT and OT since he was 6 months old. I believe now from the seizures and the Phenobarb. He has sensory integration disorder also, and still gets OT and now gets speech. He does not speak well but he does try. His social skills are lacking and Im scared that he is going to be pushed away from society even more now that he has been diagnosed with Epilepsy. He is currently on Trileptal, which i think seriously affects his mood and his behavior. He is so aggressive now and gets so fixated on a certain issue at hand he doesn't separate the reality from his reality. I dont know if that makes any sense its just how we see it. I also feel he is not sleeping well at night, does anyone have a video monitor in their childs bedroom to monitor how they sleep or if they have seizures at night? We are thinking of doing that, but now sure how insane that would be!!! Anyway, would appreciate any advice or comfort anyone would like to give. Thanks for reading. Dee

I am new to this stuff. My son has had 1 grand mal seizure on May 31 and since then I guess you can say partial seizures. He is on Trileptal now. He's only been on it for 29 days. I just want to say hang in there. I've been told it might be necessary once in a while to put a video camera in the bedroom to record what happens at night if I think he might be having a seizure in his room at night. www.whippettalk.com p068.ezboard.com/bpetchat

Thanks. How old is your son? Is this the first one ever? Did they determine it actually is epilepsy? They say if children have this when they are young there is a good chance they can "grow out of it" Do you see a difference in your sons mood or anything with the trileptal??? If they do have a seizure in their bed at night is there something else that can be done for them or do you just increase the medicine? Just wondering. Good luck to you too. This is a tough thing to go thru and it is nice to have another person there to help you along. Talk to you soon. Right now I am at a loss. My son had a sleep deprived EEG, and according the neurologist, he was to much of a wiggle worm to get any good readings, so he has put him on the medicine because of what I have told him. He says partial seizure. I wll have to go back on September 11. I beleive ther is more questions I have to ask. Son takes Trileptal 300 mgs for partial seizures, Adderall XR 25 mg for ADHD, Fluoxetine 20 mg and Seroquel 200 mgs for Trichotillomania. www.whippettalk.com p068.ezboard.com/bpetchat
